Storytelling from the Land Down Under

Do you know what a Wombat is?

Or maybe a Kookaburra?

The Honey BN brought excitement, learning, and a sense of wonder to the young minds as they were introduced to the fascinating world of Australian animals through classic children's books.

On December 9th, 2023, The Honey BN, in collaboration with the Australian High Commission, hosted a delightful storytelling event at The One, Brunei, with a mission to educate children about the unique wildlife of Australia.

The highlight of the event was the reading of two beloved Australian stories, "Wombat Stew" and "Kookoo Kookaburra." These tales, rich with the spirit of Australia's natural environment, captivated the children and their families. "Wombat Stew," a story about a dingo trying to make a stew from a wombat with the help of other animals, brought laughter and suspense, while "Kookoo Kookaburra," a tale about a kind and wise kookaburra, conveyed valuable lessons about kindness and respect.

Exploring Australian Wildlife Through Storytelling

Charge d'Affaires Jo Kelly graced the event, personally sharing these classic Australian stories with the attendees. The lively narration and connection to the stories brought them to life, allowing the children to experience the rich culture and wildlife of Australia in a memorable way.

To make the event even more engaging, a trivia quiz was held, turning the storytelling session into an interactive and educational experience. The quiz featured questions about the animals in the stories and broader aspects of Australian wildlife. The children eagerly participated, showcasing their newly acquired knowledge while enjoying the friendly competition.

This gamified approach to learning ensured that the kids not only had fun but also deepened their understanding of the diverse animal life that calls Australia home.

The event was more than just an opportunity to read and learn; it was a celebration of the ties between Australia and Brunei, and a chance to inspire a love for reading and wildlife in the younger generation. The collaboration between The Honey BN and the Australian High Commission demonstrated the impact that such cultural and educational events can have on young learners, fostering curiosity, appreciation for nature, and a sense of global community.
